LOL – Leaders of Library

Leaders of Library (LOL) is a volunteer program for teens ages 12-14. The goal of the organization is to give young people an active voice in their public library. Teens volunteer in the Youth Services Department at Central Library in Downtown Harrisonburg. They will be given the opportunity to learn to shelve materials, help with craft preparation, or work with the technology, depending on their interests. Ideally, members will be able to volunteer a few hours per month. Through volunteering, teens will have the opportunity to work on specific projects that help benefit the library and their community. Past activities have included:
  • Writing, filming, and editing promotional skits
  • Painting a mural
  • Book teasers
  • Using computer software to create library promotional videos
  • Lock-ins
  • Pizza parties
  • Puppet shows
With your help, we can continue to grow as an organization. The possibilities are endless! LOL is a great way for teens to have a positive impact on their community, to build work experience for job and college applications, all while having fun at the same time.
