Brown Takes Over as Branch Manager

7/30/2013
Bly Brown will officially take over the helm at North River Library on August 1, according to Lois Jones, Library Director for the Massanutten Regional Library system.

Vicki Graham, current Branch Manager of the Massanutten Regional Library Bridgewater Branch, will be retiring after 16 years there.

“Bly is the “perfect fit” for our North River branch,” states Jones.   “As a former board member there and as one who has continued to volunteer in their youth programs over the years, she will provide a smooth transition in this very active branch in our library system.”

Brown is a former education specialist for WVPT Public Television, Harrisonburg, where she spearheaded educational technology teacher workshops, parental workshops in literacy education, and community story times in public and school libraries.  She also managed the WVPT’s website and edited the station’s newsletter.

Brown graduated from James Madison University and holds a BS degree in Library Science and Elementary Education and a MEd degree in Library Science and Educational Media.  She has also worked with the Harrisonburg City School system as a reading teacher and Rockingham County Schools as a Library Media Specialist.  She has also worked at James Madison University and Blue Ridge Community College as Adjunct Faculty.

“North River Library has always had a community feel and I look forward to serving as a member of that community. I also love providing story times at North River and will continue to do so in my role as branch manager,” says Brown.

Brown also advises North River library patrons to watch the MRL website for announcements of new children, preteen, and teen programming over the coming year.
